The Gondshorts: 12-week Film Project

For the next 3 months Left of Centre will engage in a series of short film projects called The Gondshorts. Inspired by the works of Michel Gondry, but without the time, budget, equipment or skill, we shall create a visually pleasant and imaginative short film that few people will understand - and we will do one of these every week for three months. Yup - about 12 films. We are taking suggestions for themes and hiring actors via the Left of Centre Contact Form and the Left of Centre Message Board. If we choose to do your theme, you get a free set of LOC stickers. If we choose to cast you, you get shame. Can ya' dig? We knew that you could...


The kickoff project of the series is titled A Murder at 3397 and is available, like most of our films, at the LOC Destructions Theatre. Shot entirely on the Flip Digital Recorder in a single day and edited the next, LOC is no stranger to efficiency.

Gondry-Style Shopping is the second installation of the The Gondshorts Project. The short revolves around the sublime inspiration derived from the everyday supermarket experience. We invite you to closely follow the shopping routine of the protagonist in a newly created world of dancing Doritos and rambunctious pomodori. Gondry-Style Shopping is available, like most of our films, at the LOC Destructions Theatre.

The ensuing email was sent to the suspected contacts of Michel Gondry at the production company Partizan. Pessimistically pragmatic, we of course do not anticipate a response.

Attn: Danielle Hinde and Olivier Bassuet:

I apologize for the informal nature of this email but we are lost souls and have, very simply, exhausted all of our resources in an attempt to reach your client Michel Gondry.

We are currently paying tribute to Gondry’s cinematic excellence with a 3-month film project of utter extravagance entitled The Gondshorts, and our company would very much like to invite him to participate in one of our slated 12 shorts. We of course understand that Mr. Gondry is a directorial superhero of sorts, red cape and all, and that he is most likely booked and engaged in large-budget shootings all over the world, but we would still like to pass on this invitation to him.

Would it be possible to email Mr. Gondry directly or would you be so kind as to point us to his agent or contact so we can continue with our very desperate and beseeching invitation?

The music video My Name is Fat Tongue is the third installation of the Gondshort Project and Fat Tongue's first publicly released music video.

Press Release: Raised in the posh suburbs of Detroit, the uptown hip hopper Fat Tongue released his debut album in 2002. The following year, Tongue led his childhood friends including DJ Nessuno to chart success through his protégé group Fat Tonguing. He teamed up with Chicago DJ Pubby Bike this year and is traveling through Scandinavia in a mega world tour of chaotic bliss.

And for the record, LOC's MOP do not support the crass, ugly, misogynistic, xenophobic, and disgusting lyrics of Fat Tongue. In fact, we're working arduously to terminate his contract with Nessuno, but this has proven to be a very intense and expensive legal case.

Man and Planet is another installation of the Gondshort Film Project. Per our initial contract with the powers that be, LOC has agreed to complete one Gondshort per week for 12 consecutive weeks.

Man and Planet Press Release: The world turns and so does Nessuno's lackey. Involving a bit of fun with a green screen and an extensive editing process, this experimental short contemplates the atomist tradition of Greek philosophy. Oh man! There is no planet sun or star could hold you, if you but knew what you are (RWE).

Later Skater and Tommy Rocks are the two most recent installations for the LOC Gondshort Film Project. Per our initial contract with the powers that be, LOC has agreed to complete one Gondshort per week for 12 consecutive weeks. The afore mentioned are numbers 6 and 7 respectively.

Press Release: We're still making Gondshorts. We're still waiting for the great film director Michel Gondry to call us back. We're still depressed. We're still failing to reach our goals.

Dancing In Air is the most recent installation for the LOC Gondshort Film Project. Per our initial contract with the powers that be, LOC has agreed to complete one Gondshort per week for 12 consecutive weeks. The afore mentioned is film number 8.

Press Release: Eight, eight bo beight, banana nana fo feight. Dancing In Air is the eighth Gondshort installation. Thank the carpenter's crucified bearded son for black hoodies, sunglasses, and good music. Dancing In Air is a gift from the big hairy man upstairs.

Press Release: We draw airplanes. We cut airplanes out. We fly airplanes. We draw nerdy monster. We cut nerdy monster out. He eats airplanes. Airplanes is the ninth Gondshort installation.
