LOC via RSS

Postby leftofce on Sat Jul 26, 2008 5:32 pm

A spectre is haunting your computer -- the spectre of unbridled creativity. All the powers of the old world have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope and politician, Bush and Cheney, American Evangelicals and idiotic traffic cops.

Two things result from this fact:

I. Left of Centre is already acknowledged by all powers to be itself a power.

II. It is high time that we should openly, in the face of the whole world, publish our views here and have them immediately displayed in your web browser or in your email inbox.

To this end, we have made it possible for you to receive updates and stories from Left of Centre via RSS (or Atom)! Just click on the RSS button Image and follow the directions for setting up an RSS feed.

You can choose how to receive your RSS from LOC, including deliveries by forum, topic or post. For more information on this modification to our site, you may visit PHPBB.

RSS with MS Outlook

Postby leftofce on Sun Jul 27, 2008 8:16 pm

If you have Microsoft Outlook and you would like to add an RSS feed to your Inbox (I have found this to be especially useful), the procedure is quite simple.

A program known as an RSS reader, feed reader, or feed aggregator can periodically check RSS-enabled sites for you and retrieve any updated content. Most people take advantage of some form of client software to read their RSS Feeds. These programs are referred to as RSS aggregators. Outlook includes the functionality of an RSS aggregator. Each RSS item that you receive is very similar to an e-mail message. It can be moved to folders, flagged, or forwarded to another person.

Add an RSS Feed through the Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Account Settings dialog box

RSS with Firefox

Postby leftofce on Sun Jul 27, 2008 8:28 pm

Mozilla Firefox is also able to deliver the most recent LOC updates to you, without having to visit our beautiful site. To add a live RSS feed via Firefox's Live Bookmarks

    1. When Firefox discovers a feed associated with the web page you are visiting, an orangeblue icon Image automatically appears in the location bar. To review and subscribe to the web site's feed, click the orangeblue web feed icon Image. A list of all available feeds from the web site is displayed.
    2. To subscribe to any listed feed, click its name in the list.
    3. When you select the feed, you can preview some of its recent content to verify that it contains useful information for you.
    4. To add the feed as a Live Bookmark, select Live Bookmarks from Subscribe to this feed using list. Then, click Subscribe Now.
    5. Firefox enables the use of other web feed readers such as Bloglines, My Yahoo!, and Google. To subscribe to the web feed using one of these readers, select it from Subscribe to this feed using list.
    6. If you subscribed using Firefox's Live Bookmarks, the Add Live Bookmark dialog appears.
    7. Name: Enter a name of your choosing, to refer to the feed as it will appear in your bookmarks.
    8. Create in: Select where you want to save this bookmark.
    9. Click Add. You are now subscribed to the feed through a Live Bookmark. Live Bookmarks are placed in the same structure as other bookmarks.

RSS with Microsoft IE

Postby leftofce on Sun Jul 27, 2008 8:33 pm

Our very least favorite browser, MS Internet Explorer, also provides an RSS feed aggregator.

Add an RSS Feed through Windows Internet Explorer 7
When you use Windows Internet Explorer 7 and Office Outlook 2007, you can add RSS Feeds from either program as well as view the feeds in either program.
When you browse to a Web page that contains RSS information, Image appears in Windows Internet Explorer next to the Home button.
A list of all available RSS Feeds on the Web page is displayed.
Click the RSS Feed that you want to add.

We have been experiencing the occasional technological problem with our RSS integration by RSSinclude; you may have noticed this from time to time when viewing the index page as the RSS window feature has not been opening properly. This could be a problem with the script itself, or more likely, a problem with our tyrannical host IPower. We’d like to apologize for the inconvenience, but we’d prefer that you direct all comments and scathing criticism to the technical support rags at IPower.
